Rotary International members are involved in an extraordinary number of service projects around the world. The primary International Service project of Exeter Rotary in 2008-2009 is support for Polio Plus.
Past project supported include Rotoplast which is free reconstructive surgery and treatment for underprivileged children worldwide, education, and research in the prevention of cleft lip and palate. Over 700 surgeries were scheduled around the world. We continue to raise funds to support these efforts. Each surgery makes a life-changing difference to the child involved.
Members are also making quilts for Wrap-A-Smile, a related organization that provides quilts for the children undergoing surgery to take home. More information on Rotaplast is available at www.rotaplast.org
Other International Service projects:
- Exeter Rotary has supported Friends Forever for many years. This group, founded and headquartered in Portsmouth since 1986, fosters peace between cultures in conflict. They sponsor youth trips from Northern Ireland and Jerusalem to the US, then promote follow-up in the home countries after the trips. Our Club has supported the organization financially, and by hosting and helping them in our community during trips. Interact, our high school affiliate, also participates. More information can be found at www.friendsforeverusa.org
- The Club is working on a clean water project with a Rotary club in Mexico. This is being organized with the help of one of our members who spends time with the club in Mexico during the winter.
- We donate funds for emergency purposes around the world as needed, e.g. due to weather-related disasters.
